Series Intro: A weekly series that takes you inside the garden and allows you to see what your favourite humaans💚 are like, what they do, how they work and all the fun stuff they love to do outside work.
What’s your name?
My name is Prisca Edigbe.Â
Tell me about your role at Eden Life.
I am a Finance Associate. I manage the treasury at Eden and I also support other teams by making sure their payments are processed daily. My job is to ensure that every department at Eden is provided with the financial resources to carry out their day-to-day activity.
What’s your day-to-day like?
My day starts with checking for new payment requests. Speedy processing of payments is important because, without them, the business can’t run. Everything will grind to a halt.Â
Then, I check the operations sheet to know how much we need for that day. After reconciling the records and confirming the required amounts, I open the company accounts and disburse these funds to the appropriate departments so the business can go on smoothly.Â
How would you explain your job to a 5-year-old?
I manage the money that comes in and out of a business. That means I control how much money we spend and what we need to spend it on.
What do you find most interesting about your job?Â
Supporting other teams. For me, finance is the backbone of every company. We basically carry everyone on our shoulders. That’s what I find most interesting about my job, helping other teams meet up with their set targets without any hassles. If procurement needs money, we’re there, if operations need money, we’re there, if the growth team needs money, we’re there. We’re like everyone’s Sugar Daddy.
Must be nice. Have you always wanted to do finance?
Always. Ever since I was a kid, I just knew I wanted to become an accountant and work in finance. No one in my family had studied or planned to study finance so I don’t know what triggered it.Â
When I was moving from Junior to Senior secondary school, I didn’t even think twice about it, I just went straight to Commercial class. One thing I knew was that I loved numbers, I loved calculating and I loved money. So yeah, this is like my forever career.
So let’s say finance was off the table, what else would you love to do?
If I wasn’t doing this, I’d probably be running a business. Like an entrepreneur.Â
You really love your numbers and your money. So how did you come to work at Eden Life?
I was an intern at another tech company when I was told of the vacancy at Eden Life. I applied, passed the test and got to the interview stage. Then, I met with Nadayar, the CEO, he shared the company’s vision with me and here we are.Â
Why Eden? What caught your interest about the company?
I told my elder brother about the job offer and his excitement was off the roof. Apparently, he is a big fan of Eden Life and the co-founders.Â
He had been following the company since its inception and loved the work the co-founders were doing. He made me understand the opportunities I had to grow here and I’m really glad I took that step.
What do you find most interesting about the company?Â
For me, it’s the friendship that exists between everybody. Everyone is friendly and helpful irrespective of their position. When I meet people from the company that I’ve not seen before because they prefer to work from home, it feels so familiar, like we’ve known each other for ages.Â
I came to Eden Life from a place where everybody was uptight and faced their cubicle all day, so it’s still a bit surprising to me. But I like it so much.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I watch a lot of movies. When I’m not working, I’m always on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Showmax. TV series are my thing. I also read a bit of fiction when I feel like it.Â
What would you say to people that want to work at Eden?
Just be yourself. At Eden, you’ll do one of the best works of your life and you’ll have people to cheer and support you all the way.
